Ahead of the Winterthur Cricket Club's 40th Annual General Meeting, Mohamed Sameel announced he is stepping down as club captain. A successor will be elected at the AGM.
In a message to the active members Mohamed wrote:
"When I was elected as captain of Winterthur Cricket Club in 2018, I had a vision for the club, it was to make us one of the most competitive sides in
Switzerland.
We worked hard together to reach our goals and ambitions and in 2020 we made it to three semi finals and a final. Showing evidence of our hard work as a team
and proving to ourselves that we were a different side, the team to beat.
Unfortunately, last season we took a step back, and this was not where I wanted to lead my club towards. So I took the time after the season to think and
i have made a conscious decision to step down as the captain of Winterthur Cricket Club.
It was an absolute honour to captain Winterthur Cricket Club, I would like to thank everyone who supported me in my journey, including the honoury and passive
members of the club who entrusted me with the role of captaincy over the last four seasons and of course to all my fellow team mates, I could not have done it without your
support.
Especially I would like to thank my wife for her support. The sacrifices she has made for me over the past four seasons is immense, and I feel like now I have
to slowly but surely return her favours.
Taking the above factors into consideration, I feel it is now time for someone else to take charge. I would like to give my successor enough time to plan, setup
and revive the team for the upcoming season, hence I am announcing my decision way before the new season begins.
I will continue to be an active member of the club and help my successor with the transition.
I also wish him all the very best, let us now rally around our new captain and give him all the support he needs and make Winterthur Cricket Club, the club to
be a part of.
Best Regards, Mohamed"
At a recent committee meeting, Jiten Patel (President) thanked Mo for the four years at the stern of the club and was pleased to learn that Mo still intended to be involved in the club.
A new club captain will be elected at the Annual General Meeting, scheduled to be held at the Restaurant Rössli in Winterthur-Seen on Wednesday 16th Match 2022.
