A clinical Winterthur Cricket Club dominated the Zurich Lions, writes Mohamed Sameel.
Winterthur Cricket Club visited the Zürich Lions at Uster to play their first CSPL game of the season. Having won the toss WCC captain Mohamed elected to field first.
The Lions got off to a flying start scoring 16 runs off the very first over of their innings, but that was the only highlight of the Lions innings. WCC dominated play with some outstanding
bowling and fielding. At the half way stage of their innings the lions were in a somewhat comfortable position of 83/3 but after the break WCC decided to go for the kill bringing back their
strike bowlers Shijo and Sahan who took 6 wickets among them. And before too long the Zürich Lions were All Out for 109 in just 28.2 overs.
After a good lunch, a confident WCC began their chase. The two openers Ruan and Sohaib milked the bowling and put away the bad balls to establish the third 50 run opening stand for WCC this
season, across all formats. Sohaib was unlucky to chop one on to his stumps when the total was 53 runs, he scored 35 runs, and Ruan (11 ) too lost his wicket soon after. Despite the openers
getting out WCC looked in total control with Prafull and Pip at the crease, they too began to build a good partnership, unfortunately then Pip was out LBW, at that point WCC were 86/3 and it was
Kasun who went out to join a well settled Prafull at the crease, and they took WCC home and Kasun finished the game in style with a straight six. WCC won by 7 wickets and 11.5 overs to spare.
