Winterthur had a perfect start to their 2019 Cricket Switzerland Premier League (CSPL) season with a 10 wicket win over Swiss United Cricket Club.
Not even the extreme weather was able to stop Winterthur Cricket Club. Winterthur Cricket Club started their CSPL campaign on 05.05.2019 in freezing conditions but the committment of the players
and their determination kept them warm to absolutely demolish the Swiss United making their day on the field even colder.
Winterthur CC's captain Mohamed, won the toss and elected to field in conditions he thought was suitable for his bowling attack. And as planned WCC were on top as early as the fourth over having
SUCC against the wall for 12/4 in 3.5 With Jaso (2), Murali (4), Shaaraz (0)and Diyon (0) all back in the hut early. Elyas taking a superb catch to dismiss Jaso the dangerous SUCC opening batsman
off Sahan, and Prafull taking an absolute blinder diving to the legside to dismiss Shaaraz. Once again it was WCC's strike bowlers Sahan and Elyas who ran through SUCC's top order in no time.
This put the SUCC middle order under alot of pressure but they consolidated and built a partnership Varothayan and Nithyaruban took them to 82 runs before Varothayan (40) who was the more settled
batsman and was brilliantly caught at mid on by Mohamed and SUCC lost their 5th wicket in the 21over. Thanks to SUCC's lower order batsmen Nithyaruban (21), Sathees (22) and Sivaloganathan (19)
and they were able to post a respectable 157 All out in their alloted 40 Overs.
Sahan 8.0 - 1 - 21 - 4
Elyas 7.0 - 0 - 24 - 2
Rod 7.0 - 0 - 28 - 0
Jagath 8.0 - 0 - 39 - 1
Cheema 6.0 - 0 - 19 - 1
Bhanuka 4.0 - 0 - 22 - 0
After Lunch, a confident WCC team started their chase, it was still around 5° - 6° degrees but the Prafull and Cheema kept the SUCC's bowling attack at bay, they looked very comfortable at the crease and the understanding between Prafull and Cheema was wonderful. They punished the bad balls whilst still rotating strike taking those quick singles and always kept the scoreboard ticking. At the 20th over water break WCC were 93/0. After the break both Prafull and Cheema took to the SUCC bowlers absolutely demolishing them and the match was soon over by the 26th over.
Prafull 75 not out
Cheema 63 not out
Played brilliantly and carried they bats.
It was an humiliating defeat to the Swiss United because they are known to have one of the strongest bowling attacks in Switzerland.
