Cricket in Winterthur

Welcome

Welcome to the Winterthur Cricket Club. This site is designed to promote the club by bringing it to the web where it is easily accessible to members and prospective members alike.

Founded in 1982 the Winterthur Cricket Club plays cricket in the Swiss town of Winterthur, approximately 25 kilometres east of Zurich and is fully associated to Cricket Switzerland.
Winterthur is one of the few Swiss clubs that play cricket on an official "non-turf" cricket pitch.
Here you'll find all the latest news and gossip involving the Winterthur Cricket Club and its cricketing activities, including details of social events and contact information.

The club also has quite an extensive social side which has in the past included such events as bowling evenings, BBQs and Brunches, Curry Evenings, Club Ski-Weekend, Bowling and Billiards and numerous other events.

Cricket

The cricket season runs from April through to early October. Home matches are usually played on Sundays and begin around midday. Here you'll find out more about WCC fixtures & results. Nets are every Friday evening, starting anytime after 6pm, and continue until it begins to grow dark! Following training there is social gathering in the Restaurant Rössli, just fifteen minutes from the ground. Obviously practice does not continue all year round, but the gathering in the evening does and is usually the best way to meet the founding members of the club.
Winterthur Cricket Club participate in the domestic 40-over league, the National Mr. Pickwick T20 Cricket Cup, T20 competitions (including Zuoz & Cricket On Ice) and on occasions hosts its own cricket festival. It also organises tours to destinations, such as Italy, France, England, Czech Republic and Germany. Winterthur is also the adopted home of the regional youth team, the Zurich Crickets Cricket Club.

Membership

The Club attracts members from all over the county of Zurich, the counties surrounding the lake of Zurich, Schweiz, St Gallen, Aargau, Thurgau and Schaffhausen. A modest membership fee is charged to assist in financing the club and its activities (50% reduction for under 18's) and keep the club supplied with its own kit and the expensive business of renting the ground.
Membership is split into two categories, Active, for those that wish to participate in the cricketing aspect and Passive, for those that are purely interested in the social side.
Contact us if you are considering becoming a member. That way you'll be kept up-to-date on all future social events and cricketing activities of the Club.

Now that the Winterthur Cricket Club is a little less of a mystery to you, we hope that you find the events and activities of some interest and that you will join us in the very near future.

We look forward to meeting you soon!
