Winterthur Cricket Club produced a strong all-round performance in the Cricket Switzerland National League (CSNL), successfully chasing down 197 to defeat Zug Cricket Club by 5 wickets at Deutweg, Winterthur.

After losing the toss, Winterthur CC were sent into the field as Zug Cricket Club elected to bat first. WCC’s bowling unit responded with discipline and control through most phases of the innings, restricting Zug CC to 196 all out in 41.1 overs.

The innings started positively for Zug, but Winterthur gradually pulled things back through tight spells and important breakthroughs. Purusothman Karunakaran led the attack brilliantly with 3 wickets, while Purus and Grant Cupido both picked up 2 wickets each to keep pressure on the batting lineup.

Although Amal Fonseka anchored the innings with a patient 42* and Nirojan Manikkavasakar provided late acceleration with a quickfire 34 off 14 balls, WCC consistently found ways to break partnerships and prevent the innings from completely running away.

The chase began aggressively for Winterthur CC.

Vicky Tiwana immediately shifted momentum with a fearless 24 off just 8 balls, including three massive sixes, setting the tone early in the innings. Grant Cupido added a composed 13, while Crispin Webb and Riaz Ahmadzai contributed valuable runs during the middle phase to stabilise the innings after a few quick wickets.

The defining partnership came through Siva Rama Chandra Raju Indukuri and Roganatharsan Ramanathan.

Siva played a calm and controlled unbeaten knock of 58 from 64 balls, rotating strike effectively while punishing loose deliveries. At the other end, Roganatharsan changed the momentum of the match completely with a powerful counterattacking innings of 54 from just 33 deliveries, smashing 5 sixes at a strike rate above 160.

Together, they guided Winterthur safely to 198/5 in just 30.4 overs, securing an impressive 5-wicket victory with more than 10 overs remaining.
