Winterthur Cricket Club delivered another composed all-round performance in the Cricket Switzerland National League (CSNL), defeating CERN CC by four wickets at Deutweg after chasing down 157 with more than 13 overs to spare.

🎳 Bowling Restricts CERN CC

After losing the toss, Winterthur were asked to field first, and their bowlers immediately established control. Captain Harsha Deshan led from the front with an outstanding spell of 2 for 26 from eight economical overs, removing both CERN openers to leave the visitors struggling at 31 for 3.

While Mansoor Imtiaz attempted to rebuild with a patient 22, Winterthur’s bowlers refused to allow any meaningful partnerships to develop. Riaz Ahmadzai continued the pressure by claiming two wickets, while Burhanullah Mia Khel, Prakash Selvaraj, Karunakaran Nirojan and Suresh Wickramasinghe all contributed with valuable breakthroughs.

The only real counterattack came from Partha Pratim Paul, whose aggressive 30 from just 18 deliveries briefly lifted CERN’s scoring rate. However, Suresh Wickramasinghe removed captain Dawood Ahmed before later adding another wicket, while excellent fielding—including safe catches from Usman Ahmadzai, Suresh Wickramasinghe and wicketkeeper Siva Rama Chandra Raju Indukuri—ensured CERN were dismissed for 156 in 35.1 overs.

🏏 A Chase to Remember

Chasing 157, Winterthur made an excellent start through captain Harsha Deshan and Grant Cupido, who added 51 for the opening wicket. Harsha looked in complete control throughout his fluent 46 from only 33 balls, striking seven boundaries and a six to put the chase firmly on course.

Following Harsha’s dismissal, wicketkeeper Pio De Silva continued the momentum with a superb 46 from 42 deliveries, combining elegant stroke play with sensible shot selection. His partnership with Usman Ahmadzai, who struck a brisk 17 featuring two sixes, effectively took the game away from CERN.

Although CERN claimed a few late wickets through Irsalan Ahmed, Winterthur remained calm under pressure. Roganatharsan Ramanathan stayed unbeaten to guide the closing stages before Riaz Ahmadzai struck the winning runs, sealing a comfortable four-wicket victory in only 21.1 overs. It was another complete performance built on disciplined bowling, aggressive batting and outstanding teamwork.
